In Steve's mind, the only way you could mess up a relationship was if you didn't keep working at it. If you grew complacent and took the other person for granted, that was the worst thing you could do. Everybody made mistakes, and that was exacerbated if there was a break-down in communication, but so long as you remembered that you weren't the only person affected, things could always be patched up, and a lot of times, made stronger for it. At some points, he would surely question what Rogue was doing with him, a guy from the 40's with a high school education and nothing to his name but a shield and the ability and willingness to fight wrong-doing; but for now, he was happy, and he was willing to work for this thing they had, and make it as strong as possible.
The question about clothes was a little out of left-field, but not too surprising, considering it was getting late, and they'd probably go to bed not long after they ate. Plus, the state of their current clothes really left something to be desired, after their lovemaking on the couch. But it was the idea, combined with the mental image, of Rogue wearing one of his button-downs, or even one of his undershirts, that made Steve freeze, his jaw snapping shut on a bite of sandwich. That was... "Uhhmm," he quickly closed his mouth and swallowed, before food started falling out, cleared his throat, and tried again. "Yeah. Yes. You can-- sure, borrow some clothes. That's--fine."
Fine. Fine. It was definitely better than fine, and Rogue would probably be able to tell, because get him flustered and he could never seem to shut up.
